But a late Bianconeri charge saw them run out 2-0 victors at the Stadio Olimpico in this late night fixture.

The match was of a high entertainment value from the start, both teams showing desire to win, which is not always the case in big Serie A matches like this.

The first real chance came in the 10th minute, when Amauri chested the ball down to David Trezeguet on the edge of the area, and the French striker hit a powerful volley that had to be tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.

The Uruguayan shot-stopper was called into action twice in succession soon after that, as in the 14th minute he first parried away a lob by Mauro Camoranesi which was heading for the top corner, and then came out to anticipate Trezeguet, who had again been found by Amauri.

The first chance for the home side came in the 21st minute, when defender Aleksandr Kolarov dribbled past José Caceres and fired a shot from just inside the area that forced a great save from Gianluigi Buffon.

Just after the half hour mark, Lazio midfielder Roberto Baronio fired a great free kick from the edge of the area that was parried away with his foot by Buffon.

Shortly before the break, Juve suffered a major setback as star playmaker Diego suffered a muscle problem and had to be replaced by Sebastian Giovinco in the 44th minute.

The first chance of the restart came in the 53rd minute, when Giovinco hit a free kick short to Fabio Grosso, whose precise cross toward the far post was just missed by Amauri in front of an empty goal.

And he caused more danger for the Lazio defense ten minutes later, when he found Trezeguet inside the area, but the Frenchman's shot after making a nice turn was too weak, allowing Muslera to grab it.

In the 68th minute, Julio Cruz had his first real chance of the match, but he didn't manage to get the ball past Buffon from close range.

Five minutes later, Juve surprisingly opened the scoring. Claudio Marchisio sent in a cross from the right for Amauri, who headed the ball on Trezeguet's back, after which it fell kindly to Caceres, whose terrific volley beat Muslera.

After this goal, Lazio tried to push for an equalizer, but they started to look tired in the last ten minutes, while Juve did well to close down all the spaces.

Trezeguet added a second to seal the victory in the 94th minute, as he tapped the ball in from close range after Muslera kept out an acrobatic effort by Amauri.

This allowed Ciro Ferrara's team to secure the three points, and maintain their 100% start to the season.
